About The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker is a fairy tale-ballet in two acts, with three scenes, by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The ballet is a setting of E.T.A. Hoffmann story by Alexandre Dumas Pere. Tchaikovsky’s completed his ballet score in 1891–92. The Nutcracker has become one of the popular and most performed ballet, primarily around the Christmas season.
The Nutcracker ballet was first performed in the United States in 1944, by the San Francisco Ballet. The New York City Ballet company performed George Balanchine’s classic choreography of the Nutcracker in 1954.
