Free Sheet Music | Funeral March of a Marionette for Piano
January 28, 2010
Charles-Francois Gounod Funeral March of a Marionette, a short as it is, has never failed to show its charm. Originally written as a movement from Suite Burlesque, a suite that was never completed, the music starts by telling the listener that two of the members of the Marionette troupe have participated in a duel that has ended tragically. Pallbearers are organized, and the procession to the cemetery begins. The music takes a brighter tone when some of the troupe refresh themselves at a wayside inn, and discuss the virtues of their late companion. The closing bars turn somber again, reflecting upon the brevity of life, even for marionettes.
