The Greatest Showman Movie| Beginner and Easy Piano Sheet Music

The Greatest Showman is a musical drama it premiered on the RMS Queen Mary II in 2017, the same year that saw the last performance ever from the predecessor of the Barnum and Bailey Circus – subject of the story. Barnum and Bailey started in 1871 and later merged with Ringling circus. In the mid 19th century P.T. Barnum and his circus troupe performed at the famous circus “The Greatest Show.” Some people loved and others were not sure about the film. It was nominated for a number of Musical or Comedy awards at the 75th Golden Globe Awards: Best Motion Picture and best actor;  but it was the music, not the plot that stood out and won awards.  “The Greatest Showman” won music awards for the best original song ‘This is me.” It also won best original song in the 90th Academy Awards and Best compilation music from the film soundtrack for visual media at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

In real life, Jenny Lind was a famous singer who founded a children’s hospital in Norwich, England, where Barnum and Baileys circus visited. Based on a true story, the film set a new record number for sing-along-screenings in over 550 cinemas in the UK. The soundtrack was No.1 in the U.K. for 11 weeks, the second recording to do that in 30 years. In the U.S. It was listed in the top 15 of the IMDb list of American Top Grossing Musical Titles. It is currently running as a stage musical with sing-along-subtitles.

Synopsis of ‘The Greatest Showman’

It all began with P.T. Barnum, the son of a tailor.  Young Barnum fell in love with the daughter of his father’s  boss, Charity Hallett, when he managed to make her laugh one day. Charity is sent away to finishing school. Barnum  promised her that they would write to each other and meet when they were grown up. In the film the song, “A Million Dreams” is all about this promise. They do meet again, marry, and have two children.  Charity is happy, but Barnum wanted to do exciting things. When he lost his job he decided to get a bank loan and buy Barnum’s American Museum in Downtown Manhattan,  New York. It was a museum with a variety of things to look at. However, business was slow so his children suggested Barnum try something else. He began a search for unusual people, “freaks” as they were known at the time. Some people liked the show, but others didn’t. Barnum decided he needed to find someone rich to help support. Barnum went to England with his friend Carlyle who fell in love with an African American trapeze artist in the circus. Carlyle’s parents did not approve. Barnum departs again,  his troupe to perform on their own. They are teased, but they did not give up. “This is me” is about how they took courage and stood up to the people who bullied them. After meeting with the Queen, Barnum met Jenny Lind, a Swedish singer with an incredible voice. Barnum went on tour to America with Jenny Lind. Barnum then went home and found the circus was on fire. A fire started by protestors  who were against the troupe. Barnum lost everything, his home, his family, his wife, his troupe. Barnum was feeling sorry for himself. His troupe found him and told him that they were his family, and they would support him.

Twelve Days of Christmas for Easy Piano

Lyrics for Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

Lyrics for Twelve Days of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.
On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

Subsequent verses for Twelve Days of Christmas are as follows:
4 calling birds
5 gold rings
6 geese a-laying
7 swans a-swimming
8 maids a-milking
9 ladies dancing
10 lords a-leaping
11 pipers piping
12 drummers drumming

All Through The Night | Free Beginner Piano Sheet Music (PDF)

All Through the Night (or Ar Hyd y Nos) is a Welsh folk and children’s song that was first recorded in 1784. John Ceiriog Hughes (1832-1887) wrote the most commonly sung lyrics, which have been translated into several languages. One of the earliest English versions of the song was by Thomas Oliphant in 1862. The tune is also used for the Christian hymns, “Go My Children With My Blessing,” and “For the Fruit of All Creation” by Fred Pratt Green.

In more recent days All Through the Night has found it’s way into popular circles. Austrian composer, Franz Joseph Haydn, composed a set of Welsh folk songs for George Thomson (1757-1831). One of the melodies is based on All Through the Night. American folk group, Peter, Paul and Mary recorded a version of All Through the Night for their children’s album, Peter, Paul and Mommy. The tune also appears in several feature films, including Knowing, with Nicolas Cage. In the film features his character’s wife is seen singing the English version of All Through the Night to their child.

English Lyrics for All Through the Night (Ar Hyd y Nos)

All the stars’ twinkles say
All through the night
“This is the way to the realm of glory,”
All through the night.
Other light is darkness
To show true beauty
The Heavenly family in peace
All through the night.
O, how cheerful smiles the star,
All through the night
To light its earthly sister
All through the night.
Old age is night when affliction comes
But to beautify man in his late days
We’ll put our weak light together
All through the night.

Welsh Lyrics for All Through the Night

Holl amrantau’r sêr ddywedant
Ar hyd y nos
“Dyma’r ffordd i fro gogoniant,”
Ar hyd y nos.
Golau arall yw tywyllwch
I arddangos gwir brydferthwch
Teulu’r nefoedd mewn tawelwch
Ar hyd y nos.
O mor siriol, gwena seren
Ar hyd y nos
I oleuo’i chwaer ddaearen
Ar hyd y nos.
Nos yw henaint pan ddaw cystudd
Ond i harddu dyn a’i hwyrddydd
Rhown ein golau gwan i’n gilydd
Ar hyd y nos.

And when the stars ingather do
In their far venture stay
Then smile as dreaming, little one,
By, by, lully, lullay.

A number of versions also include a fifth verse.

1) Start by asking your piano student to name the flatted notes and to play them on the piano.

2) Show you piano student the correct hand placement for this piece, and let them know that their hands will be in this position throughout the piece.

3) Demonstrate the first two measures and ask them to play them for you. Say “half note” when you play the half note. Ask them to do the same so that their performance of the half note is the correct length. Encouraging students to say “half note” when they play the half note will also help them two recall the number of beats for this rhythm – half note – two syllables.

4) Demonstrate measures 3-4, and ask them to play them for you. Say “three-beat-note” when you play the dotted half note.

6) Practice the rest of the measures in a similar fashion.

You’ll be great!

Music Memory Game | Treble Clef Note Names

Do you kids or students need some help with note naming? This memory game is a fun addition to your note naming drill strategies.

First, drill the note names with your student by laying the cards on the table face up. Select a set of notes to drill. If your student is just beginning, a set of 5 cards – C-G – may be all you want to drill. Ask them to combine the cards in pairs – the F note with the F card – until all the cards are paired.

Next, shuffle the cards and place them on the table face down. Playing against your student, begin the matching game. Take turns flipping the cards over, trying to find pairs and remember where all the cards are. The player with the most pairs at the end of the game wins the game.

Minuet in D Minor (JSBach) for Piano | Free Sheet Music

The Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook is the source of many wonderful compositions. In fact the “notebook” is really two notebooks that composer Johann Sebastian Bach presented to his second wife, Anna Magdalena. The two notebooks are dated 1722 and 1725. The Anna Magdalena Notebook commonly refers to the 1725 manuscript. The 1722 notebook contains pieces composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, including many of the French Suites. The 1725 notebook is a set of pieces written by Bach and other composers of the era. This collection provides an unequaled view into the domestic music of the era and the musical tastes of the Johann Sebastian Bach family.

Minuet in D Minor is likely from the second notebook.
